Guest Post | | When Our Goa Plan Failed, We Found the Perfect Villa Escape in Lonavala Instead By Siddhesh

There are some trips you spend months planning.

And then there are trips that happen because absolutely nothing goes according to plan.

This was definitely the second type.

For almost 4 – 5 years, my friends and I had been trying to plan a Goa trip. Every single year, the same cycle repeated itself:

  • Someone’s leave got cancelled
  • Someone suddenly became “financially responsible”
  • Someone got into a relationship
  • Someone got out of a relationship

Basically, Goa remained a group-chat dream.

So this year, we lowered our expectations dramatically.

Instead of Goa, we decided:
“Let’s at least watch one IPL match live in the stadium.”

Simple enough, right?

Wrong.

Tickets sold out faster than concert tickets, and suddenly our “boys’ trip” was once again reduced to sending memes in the WhatsApp group.

At this point, frustration turned into spontaneity.

One friend randomly said:
“Forget everything. Let’s just go somewhere nearby this weekend.”

And honestly, that was the best decision we made.

Searching for Villas Near Mumbai & Pune

The next few hours were classic chaos.

Ten tabs open.
 Twenty Instagram reels.
Everyone is pretending to be a travel expert.

We started looking for villas in Lonavala because it was:

  • Close to Mumbai and Pune
  • Easy for everyone to travel to
  • Perfect weather
  • And honestly… hard to go wrong with Lonavala during IPL season and pre-monsoon vibes

We found plenty of places online.

Some looked overly edited.
Some looked tiny.
Somehow, some managed to make “luxury” look depressing.

Then we came across Aashiyaanaa Villas.

And immediately, something felt different.

The view looked unreal.
The pool area actually looked spacious.
The whole property had that cosy-but-premium vibe that feels ideal for group trips.

Most importantly?
It looked like a place where memories could happen naturally.

Not just another stay.

So we called them.

The Unexpected IPL Setup That Made the Trip

When we spoke to the Aashiyaanaa team, we casually mentioned:
“We mainly want a chill weekend where we can watch IPL together.”

And this is where things got interesting.

Instead of giving robotic hotel responses, they actually understood the vibe we wanted.

They suggested:
“What if we arrange a projector setup near the pool area?”

That one sentence instantly sold the trip.

Suddenly, we weren’t just booking a villa in Lonavala anymore.

We were planning:

  • Poolside IPL screenings
  • Late-night conversations
  • Music
  • Barbecue scenes
  • And one of those weekends that somehow become core memories later

The Drive to Lonavala

One underrated part of weekend trips near Mumbai is the drive itself.

Especially during slightly cloudy weather.

The closer we got to Lonavala, the better the mood became.
 The city stress slowly disappeared.
 People stopped checking work emails.
 The playlist quality improved dramatically.

By the time we reached the villa, everyone had mentally switched into vacation mode.

And the property genuinely looked even better in person.

The mountain views.
 Cool breeze.
 Open spaces.
A peaceful atmosphere without feeling isolated.

It had the exact balance you want in a group getaway villa.

IPL by the Pool Hits Different

I don’t think any of us expected the projector setup to become the highlight of the weekend.

But sitting near the pool with snacks, drinks, loud cricket debates, and a giant IPL screen under the night sky…

Yeah, that was special.

At one point:

  • Half the group was seriously watching the match
  • The other half was busy roasting players like professional commentators

Meanwhile, someone almost fell into the pool celebrating a six.

Classic.

And somehow, this unplanned villa trip became better than all the Goa plans we had over the years.

Maybe because there was no pressure.

No itinerary.
 No overplanning.
No “we HAVE to make this trip amazing.”

It just happened naturally.

During the Day: Slow Mornings & Lonavala Views

The best part about villa stays is that mornings don’t feel rushed.

No crowded breakfast buffet.
 No hotel noise.
 No checkout panic.

Just slow mornings.

Some of us sat outside with chai.
Some jumped into the pool before breakfast.
One friend disappeared for an hour pretending to take “cinematic drone shots.”

Lonavala has this effect where doing absolutely nothing still feels productive.

What To See Nearby

If you’re planning a similar weekend getaway near Mumbai or Pune, there’s plenty around Lonavala worth exploring:

🏞️ Tiger Point

Perfect for evening views and chai stops.

🌊 Pawna Lake

Especially beautiful during monsoon and sunset hours.

🚗 Bhushi Dam

Can get crowded, but still fun during rains.

🌿 Lion’s Point

Ideal for late-night drives and foggy weather.

☕ Local Cafés

Lonavala has surprisingly good cafés now for breakfast and coffee breaks.

Nightlife in Lonavala? Surprisingly Fun.

Lonavala nightlife isn’t “party city” nightlife like Goa.

But honestly, that’s what makes it enjoyable.

Villa nights are the real experience.

Music by the pool.
 Cards.
 IPL.
 Barbecue.
 Random 2 AM life discussions.

It feels more personal and memorable than loud clubs.

Especially for friend groups.

How To Reach Lonavala

One reason Lonavala works so well for quick trips is accessibility.

From Mumbai

  • Approx. 2–3 hours by road
  • Easy via Mumbai-Pune Expressway

From Pune

  • Approx. 1.5–2 hours drive

By Train

Lonavala railway station is well connected to both Mumbai and Pune.

Best Option?

Road trip with friends.
 Always.

Travel Tips & “Beware Of”

A few things we learned:

Book Early During IPL & Monsoon Season

Good villas in Lonavala get booked quickly.

Don’t Overplan

Some of the best moments happen when there’s no strict schedule.

Carry Layers

Lonavala weather changes fast, especially evenings.

Network Can Be Patchy

Honestly, not always a bad thing.

Why This Trip Stayed With Us

Funny thing is…

We still haven’t gone to Goa.

And we still haven’t watched an IPL match live in a stadium.

But weirdly, nobody cares anymore.

Because this spontaneous villa trip gave us something better:
 Actual uninterrupted time together.

No distractions.
 No rushed schedules.
Just good conversations, cricket, mountain air, and one unexpectedly perfect weekend.

Sometimes the best trips are the ones that were never part of the plan.

And if you’re searching for luxury villas in Lonavala for a group getaway near Mumbai or Pune, experiences like this are exactly why villa stays are becoming more popular than traditional hotels.

Especially when the villa understands the vibe you’re looking for.
